DISCRETE PROTECTION RELAY UPGRADE

Summary

Replacement of all protection relays on the sites 11kV, 690V and 415V electrical systems. This project covered the removal of existing GEC mechanical protection relays and installing and commissioning Schneider MiCom relays.

Solution

Replacement protection relay panel doors were constructed, and FAT tested in HES Wangara workshop. HES Engineering worked with BHP Engineering to plan best utilisation of time and access during planned shutdowns. This also had to take in to account other project works happening on site simultaneously. This structured planning allowed for efficient execution of works on site, including commissioning and most times works completed ahead of schedule.
