Main LV Switchboard Replacement

Summary

High Energy Service were engaged by Ventia to replace the aged existing Main LV Switchboard in Substation W2. The existing switchboard no longer complied to Australian standards and had come to the end of its serviceable life cycle.

The project required in depth preparation and planning to ensure the safety of all technicians involved and minimal disruption to ongoing operations at Garden Island.

Solution

High levels of communication were implemented to ensure the work was completed with a minimum of disruptions to the Defence Base daily operations. HES engaged specialist contractors to perform asbestos sampling and assessment of the substation infrastructure and surrounding grounds. With a team of highly skilled technicians were able to complete the full scope of works, including providing temporary generators, SMWS and permit development, removal of existing bund area, isolations, removal of obsolete switchboard, installation of new switchboard and re-termination of existing sub circuits.

Due to the level of planning carried out prior to the shutdowns we were able to complete the works with minimal disruption to site personnel and stakeholders.

The works were completed on time and on budget with no safety issues encountered.
